Description: This journal is bound using the Japanese Stab Binding method. While this style of journal doesn't lay completely flat, it is perfect for sketching, a photo album, journaling and may other purposes.
THE FLAW Unfortunately we used a paper that was just slightly too thick which doesn't allow the journal to lay open at all without slamming shut. The only way around this is to wrap one elastic band around the side that isn't being used so that the side of the book and paper that is being used can be done so without the cover getting in the way. With this flaw, we have greatly reduced the price.
It can open both vertically and horizontally. The hard covers are wrapped in a beautiful, colorful, hand-marbled paper. The spine and hinge is covered in a strong, matching bright yellow book cloth so the journal can open and close without worry of tear or cracking. The covers and paper are bound together in a traditional Japanese Stab Binding pattern in red bookbinding thread. The holes have been protected using eyelets. While it stays closed on it's own, the journal comes with two yellow elastic bands. One to use to keep the one side of the open journal away from the part you are writing/working in and the other to keep the journal closed extra tight when not in use for long periods of time. This will prevent dust particles from getting in between the pages and allows the shape to stay even if left outside during high humidity whereas otherwise the covers can warp slightly.
